Work Performed

Work activities in this group primarily involve developing, writing, and editing material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical publications concerned with work methods and procedures and with installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment. Typically, workers collect information by observing industrial activities, interviewing supervisory and technical personnel, and reading or studying engineering drawings, journals, manuals, and other technical materials. They organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. Workers may also write specifications, prepare speeches and news releases, edit material prepared by other writers, and handle technical documentation.

Ability to grasp technical subject matter and terminology; lucid verbal expression; ability to visualize spatial relationships of objects on flat surfaces; and analytical ability and logic in organizing material.
