ARTICULATION

Articulation refers to the process in which a university accepts certain courses from community college as comparable to courses at other California colleges and universities.

Monterey Peninsula College participates in the statewide articulation process.  This statewide effort provides information to students through two state funded websites:     ASSIST and CAN

ASSIST

MPC courses are listed on the ASSIST website to aid students in their transfer process. ASSIST shows which MPC courses are equivalent to courses offered at Universities of California and California State Universities. The ASSIST website also lists the courses that are accepted by the University of California System, MPC courses for the California State University General Education Pattern, and the MPC courses for the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC).

Information on agreements for majors between Monterey Peninsula College and UC and CSU campuses can be found at the ASSIST website.

CAN

Students who intend to transfer to a California State University should be aware of a special course numbering system called "CAN" (California Articulation Number). Articulation refers to the process in which a university accepts certain courses from community college as comparable to courses at other California colleges and universities.

The CAN system involves assigning standardized numbers to courses that are articulated with community colleges and the entire California State University system and sometimes the University of California.

An example of the CAN system is Anthropology 2 (CAN ANTH 2). The number "2" is only MPC's number. "ANTH 2" is used to number the comparable/articulated course in the CAN system.
