TRANSFER ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

 

Admission Requirements for Transfer to California State University (CSU)
Eligibility for admission to CSU is dependent upon:

  • High school grade point average in the tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades 

  • Scores on either the SAT or ACT

  • Completion with grades of “C” or better in courses in the comprehensive pattern of college preparatory subject requirements, which include English, mathematics, U.S. history or U.S. history and government, science, foreign language, visual and performing arts and electives

Students qualify for admission to CSU as  transfer applicants if they have a grade point average of 2.0 (C) in transferable units completed and if they meet any of the following standards:

  • Meet the freshman admission requirements in effect for the term for which they are applying

  • Were eligible for admission as a freshman at the time of high school graduation and have been in continual attendance at an accredited college since high school graduation

  • Were eligible as a freshman at the time of high school graduation except for the subject requirements and have made up the missing subjects and have been in continual attendance in an accredited college since high school graduation

  • Have completed at least 56 transferable semester units and meet the requirements listed below based on their high school graduation date.

Applicants who graduated from high school in 1988 or later:

Complete all subject requirements in effect upon graduation from high school (can use both high school and college course work); or complete at least 30 semester units of college coursework with a grade of "C" or better in each course to be selected from courses in English, arts and humanities, social science, science or mathematics at a level at least equivalent to courses that meet General Education requirements. The 30 units must include all of the General Education requirements in communication in the English language and critical thinking (at least nine semester units) and the requirement in mathematics/quantitative reasoning (usually three semester units) or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) requirements in English communication and mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning.

Applicants who graduated from high school prior to 1988:

Complete four years high school English and two years high school math, with grades "C" or better; or complete a baccalaureate course with a grade of "C" or better that meets the General Education requirements in written communication and a course with a grade of "C" or better that meets the General Education requirement in mathematics/quantitative reasoning or IGETC requirements in English composition and mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning. The course meeting either General Education math requirement must be above the level of intermediate algebra. 

Priority Admission Dates for CSU:

  • Summer Term: February 1-28 of that year

  • Fall Semester or Quarter: October 1 - November 30 of previous year 

  • Winter Quarter: June 1-30 of previous year

  • Spring Semester or Quarter: August 1-31 of previous year

 

Admission Requirements for Transfer to University of California (UC):

Eligibility for admission is dependent upon:

  • high school grade point average in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades

  • scores on either the SAT or ACT

  • completion with grades of “B” or better in courses in the comprehensive pattern of college preparatory subject requirements, which include English, mathematics, U.S. history,  U.S. government, foreign language and laboratory science

Applicants who  met the  subject, scholarship and examination requirements when they graduated from high school are eligible to transfer if they have a "C" (2.0) average in their transferable college coursework.

Applicants who met the scholarship requirement but did not satisfy the subject requirement must take transferable college courses in the subjects they are missing, earn a grade of "C" or better in each of these required courses and earn an overall "C" (2.0) average in all transferable college coursework to be eligible to transfer.

Students who met the scholarship requirement but did not meet the examination requirement must complete a minimum of 12 semester (18 quarter) units of transferable work and earn an overall "C" (2.0) average in all transferable college coursework completed.

Applicants who were not eligible for admission to the University when they graduated from high school because they did not meet the scholarship requirement must:

  • Complete 60 semester units (90 quarter) of transferable college credit with a grade point average of at least 2.4, and

  • Complete a course pattern requirement to include:

Two transferable college courses (3 semester or 4-5 quarter units each) in English composition; one transferable college course(3 semester or 4-5 quarter units each) in Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning; four transferable college courses (3 semester or 4-5 quarter units each) chosen from at least two of the following subject areas: the arts and humanities, the social and behavioral sciences or the physical and biological sciences.  

Priority Admission Dates for UC:

  • Summer Term: February 1-28 of that year
  • Fall Semester or Quarter: November 1-30 of previous year
  • Winter Quarter: June 1-30 of previous year
  • Spring Semester or Quarter: August 1-31 of previous year
