DESCRIPTION: Development of a personal fitness/lifestyle plan. Assessment of current
fitness and wellness and development of strategies for health, nutrition,
fitness and stress management.
HOMEWORK: Students should plan on 8-12 hours a week for the
reading and Internet assignments.

OBJECTIVES: By
the end of the course, the student will be able to:
- Understand
and interpret his/her physical fitness assessment and determine needed
changes in lifestyle to improve any weak areas
- Analyze
his/her risk factors for obesity, hypertension, cancer and heart disease
and determine appropriate lifestyle changes
- Develop
a physical fitness plan including muscular strength, cardiovascular
endurance, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition
- Analyze
his/her current diet by relating a food diary to generally accepted
standards of good nutrition
- Demonstrate
an understanding of safety and motivation with respect to behavior change
- Analyze
his/her current lifestyle for levels of stress and specific stressors
- Develop
a plan to combat lifes stressors
- Discuss
key concepts for being an intelligent consumer of fitness products and
services (evaluating fitness equipment, health clubs, fitness
professionals)
- Discuss
ways to determine the reliability of health and fitness information in the
media and on the internet
COURSE
REQUIREMENTS:
- Reading
text and completing short, open-book quizzes for each unit online.
- Complete
assessments of lifestyle, fitness and wellness components
- Complete
all activities in the Behavior Change Workbook online
- Develop
a Fitness / Wellness Plan
- Use
the Internet as a source of information
- Participate
in online group discussions.
- Participate
in online group projects.
- Use
appropriate language and behavior.
- Show
respect and support for all class members
Extra
credit opportunities:
20 points each (two per student maximum)
- Make
a personal web page (as part of the ilearn course site) and post
information and/or links to information that you have found valuable and
relevant to the course. Note: Your Student Web Page must be
completed before the last week of class.
- Use
and evaluate the Daily Fitness Log or Nutrition and Weight Management
Journal
- Complete
Identifying Your Stressors and Weekly Stress Log (Lab 10-1)
or Stress-Management Techniques and Relaxation Techniques
(Lab 10-2)
EVALUATION: There
will be a total of 500 points possible in the course. Grading will be based on the percentages of
points earned as follows:
· 90-100% = A
· 80-89%
= B
· 70-79%
= C
· 60-69%
= D

activities: two at 20 points, one at 10 points

points (6.6 points per activity)
- Personal Fitness / Wellness

points (due at end of 4th week)
- Wellness Plan - 50 points (due
at the end of the 8th week)
In order for
the above to receive the total points possible, each assignment must be
submitted by the stated deadlines.
