COURSE TITLE:                  Lifetime Fitness & Wellness Strategies, PFIT 51

TEXT:                                     Fit & Well: Alternate Edition, Fahey, Eighth Edition,  Mayfield

DESCRIPTION:                Development of a personal fitness/lifestyle plan.  Assessment of current fitness and wellness and development of strategies for health, nutrition, fitness and stress management.

HOMEWORK:                   Students should plan on 8-12 hours a week for the reading and Internet assignments.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:  

Extra credit opportunities: 20 points each (two per student maximum)

EVALUATION:  There will be a total of 500 points possible in the course.  Grading will be based on the percentages of points earned as follows:

·  90-100% = A

·  80-89%   = B

·  70-79%   = C

·  60-69%   = D

Types of assignments – Grading

(500 points total)

  1. Online Discussion Participation – 50 points (7 points per week)
    • Creating new threads
    • Responding to others
  1. Lifestyle Evaluation – 25 points
    • Must be done in the first week to get credit
    • Lab 1.2 
  1. Individual Leadership – up to 25 points* NEW 
    • Helping other students (how to use the website, answering questions, etc.)
    • Taking initiative (starting relevant discussions, suggesting activities, making a web page that is useful for other students, etc.)
    • This can show as postings on any of the discussion areas, in email to instructor, or from the student's web page.
  1. Unit quizzes (4) – 100 points
    • Each quiz - 25 points
  1. Group Nutrition Project – 50 points
  2. Internet Activities – 50 points
    • Three internet research activities:  two at 20 points, one at 10 points
  1. Behavior Change Workbook - 100 points (6.6 points per activity)
  2. Personal Fitness / Wellness Plan – 100 points 
    • Physical Fitness Plan - 50 points (due at end of 4th week)
    • Wellness Plan - 50 points (due at the end of the 8th week)

In order for the above to receive the total points possible, each assignment must be submitted by the stated deadlines.
