Succeeding in this course requires motivation, self discipline, good organizational skills, and a strong background in Beginning Algebra. If it's been more than two years since you've had the prerequisite, taking Intermediate Algebra on-line in the summer may not be the best choice for you. Most students do NOT consider the online format to be "easier" than an on-campus Intermediate Algebra course. You should plan to work on this class 5 days a week, for at least three to four hours a day. In other words, you can expect to spend 20 hours per week (or more) doing math in front of your computer...this is a 1 semester length course (17 weeks) condensed down to 7! Please also realize that this class is not self-paced. You will have weekly homework and quiz deadlines. If these deadlines are not met, your grade will suffer.
The course Orientation will be held Sunday June 13, from 2 - 4 pm in LTC 203/204. (The new Library). If you are registered for the class and do not show up for the orientation, you will be dropped, and your place given to a student on the wait list. If you are on my wait-list you must show up for orientation to see if there's a space available. Please contact me to be put on the wait list.
In addition to the orientation, you will need to be on campus for four evenings to take unit exams and the comprehensive final. If you can't come to campus on these evenings, please don't sign up for the class!
Please note the dates of the exams. It will be difficult to reschedule you for alternate testing, so please make sure your schedule can accommodate these times and dates.

You will need to register for this class in TWO places. First, as a regular course at MPC through the Admissions department: Our course is Math 263 Section #8246. If you are not registered, you will need an add code. Add codes will only be distributed at the orientation, and only to students on the waitlist, in their order on the wait list.
Once you have enrolled in the course through MPC, you will need to go to www.coursecompass.com and enroll there as well. For this you will need the course ID which is bishop76578 AND the purchased access code. Your options for purchasing the MyMathLab access code are:
Buying a new spiral bound softcover version of the textbook textbook bundled with "MyMathLab" (about $110.50). This can be purchased at the MPC bookstore
Buying the standalone version of "MyMathLab" (about $75) This will just be a card containing the MyMathLab access code. This can also be purchased at the MPC bookstore
Cheapest Option: Buying an access code online using a major credit card at the coursecompass website (www.coursecompass.com) using a credit card ( about $75).
Only the FIRST option includes a printed textbook. The other two choices give you access to the entire textbook online, but no printed materials. You may be able to find a cheap used copy of the book on EBay or Amazon, but please remember that you MUST have a MyMathLab access code to take this course. Please be sure you plan on taking the course before you open the packet and use the access code. It is NOT returnable! There are no returns, refunds, or exchanges. Once your access code is opened and you are registered at Coursecompass, the code is good for one year. If you need to drop this course and retake it, you can use the same code as long as you retake the course during the next 12 months. The add code will only work for this course...you will need to purchase a new code if you want to take Statistics or any other class online.
