The OWL is currently a pilot product
for one class. We hope to open up this service to the general student population
in the future.
The English & Study Skills Center proudly introduces the
new MPC Online Writing Lab.
The OWL is designed to offer online writing assistance for students enrolled in
Monterey Peninsula College’s distance learning classes. We have plans to expand
this service later to the general student population. Online writing assistants
are available Monday through Friday, and they will respond to papers within 48
hours.
What We Can Do for You
The Monterey Peninsula College’s English & Study Skills Center provides online
writing assistants who discuss via e-mail any student questions about essay
organization, thesis statements, paragraph structure, focus, audience,
documentation, and research techniques. Writing assistants will not correct
papers, but they will suggest editing techniques for grammar and punctuation.
One of the goals of the OWL is to establish a dialog between online writing
assistants and online students (much like the dialog that occurs in a
face-to-face tutorial in the English & Study Skills Center). Online tutoring
sessions may occur over a series of e-mails, and students should expect that
online writing assistants will ask you questions about your paper.
Submit Your Paper
After you submit your paper to the OWL, a writing assistant will read it over
and e-mail you comments as soon as possible.
