MPC Career Counseling Services
Do you need some ASSISTANCE with your Career Planning? Perhaps you need to make some decisions about your career goal(s), decide on your current educational path (such as determining your educational goal, a major, possible higher education degree(s), and selecting a transfer college) and/or you are considering making some career changes (This is often called "re-careering"). If your goal is to maximize your chances for a successful career decision, then it is necessary to do some in-depth Career Planning. This means that You Take Charge of Your Life, especially your work life. For you are the only one who knows your career preferences, the kind of work that is satisfying and the BEST for you. With the completion of a series of self assessment and career exploration activities as well as learning how to conduct an effective job search -- you will be BETTER prepared for SUCCESSFULLY obtaining the work you WANT. So what is Career Planning? It's learning -- about yourself and the world of work -- and then making choices based on what you've learned. Career Planning helps you -- ****IDENTIFY your Needs/Preferences [For e.g., where you want to work, what lifestyle you prefer, what type of career/advancement opportunities are available, what kind of skills & talents you want to develop and express, etc.]. At the same time, you will learn about the various career/work options that are available and the specific career path that you may take, and begin identifying some realistic work/career goals. ****DECIDE what type of work you want, especially specific jobs, and identify the required qualifications/education you need to enter your preferred career field; ****DISCOVER and define ways to obtain those career-related qualifications. [For e.g., you can identify the type & level of educational degree(s) you need -- and determine your educational goal(s) and requirements as well as locate the college/university that offers your preferred major] ****LEARN effective job search strategies so you can identify and conduct the necessary activities (this is called your Job Search Action Plan) to obtain the work you WANT.
Benefits of Career Planning Lifelong Career Planning gives you -- a Better Chance to get what you want from your life and work. Careful planning can help you "focus" on your specific career/educational goals that are BEST for you. Also, it gives you a better perspective (throughout your life) of your current needs & preferences (which change throughout your life) and enables you to realistically evaluate the current career opportunities (which are ever-changing).
