Salaam Alakum....Welcome. During the academic year 2000-2001, I taught English as a Foreign Language at the American Language Center in Marrakech, Morocco. I was immersed in Moroccan culture, and had the opportunity to use my French on a daily basis, and get an introduction to the native dialect of Derija and Classical Arabic. I taught all levels of English, from beginning to intermediate and advanced courses. I also offered a course in TOEFL preparation, and a special writing workshop for advanced students. I led faculty in a number of workshops, including sessions aimed at familiarizing faculty with ways to integrate technology into the classroom and sessions on teaching reading and writing. During the holy month of Ramadan our class schedule changed to accommodate the cycle of prayer and time for breaking the fast (Fitr) with the sunset. It was an incredibly enriching experience, and one which will remain with me always. I miss my students, friends and colleagues from the ALC, and look forward to the time when I can go back to visit Marrakech. |
