Reported Speech

Compare the two following sentences:

    1.  She said, "I'm leaving now!"
    2.  She said that she was leaving just then.

The first example is direct quotation; the second is reported speech.  As you can see, it is necessary to make changes in verb tense, pronouns and time words.
