2004 ROVs

Team Displays. Teams created posters, dioramas, and models to provide information about their team. In keeping with the contest theme, each display featured a conservation message.
ROV Judging. Volunteers from MBARI (the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute) were on hand to judge the Design and Innovation of the ROVs. Teams received scores in several categories: General: construction quality, appropriate materials, hydrodynamic consiterations, water pressure considerations, ballast, adjustable flotation, retrieval design features. Power: motors appropriately sized, waterproofed, securely attached, easily replacable, maneuverable in three dimensions, protective shrouds on movable parts. Control Box: easily opened, switches labeled, ergonomical, neatly wired. Wiring and tether: Strain relief at control box and at ROV, flexibility, neatly finished, harness attached neatly and securely to frame, waterproofing of subsurface wires. Other Features: Mechanical arm, camera, sensors. Ranger Engineering Evaluation. This evaluation was similar to the ROV judging. |
