Drying Organic
Liquids and Solids
Solvent Evaporation
Drying, or removal of residual
water that is present in an organic liquid, is an important step done before
distillation of a liquid and after a
liquid-liquid extraction. The technique involves
treatment of a liquid with a solid hygroscopic agent which can then be removed
via filtration.
Solid products are isolated from dried solutions by evaporating the solvent. The
solid so obtained may need to be dried to remove residual solvent.
