CHEM 30B
Dr. R. Rinehart Amines and Amides Workshop
1)
Using
Netscape*, go to
http://c4.cabrillo.edu/chem30b/exercises/Chpt_16_022600/index.html
[or to http://c4.cabrillo.edu/chem30b/exercises/exerhome.html and select
Chapter 16.].
There are
seven exercises listed.
Do all 7 of them except #5 and answer the questions asked on the
worksheets attached
[if you’re doing this outside class, the link to print
your own worksheet is not working].
* I also was able to get this to work
with the MS IE version of Chime.
These pages have been revised to use JMol rather than Chime
HINT: Use the right-click pop-up menu to change the display as needed. In
most cases, The “Sticks” display is most useful, and unchecking the
“Display Hydrogens” option is a big help in drawing line structures.
You MUST indicate heteroatoms [and attached H
-- restore the "Display Hydrogens”] using their symbols.
2) Visit Dave Woodcock’s sites http://www.molecularmodels.ca/molecule/Amines.htm and http://www.molecularmodels.ca/molecule/Amides.htm [use Netscape].
Scroll down the lists of compounds, pick a few from each
class for viewing, and record your observations on the worksheet:
http://www.molecularmodels.ca/molecule/Natural_Products.htm
and
http://www.molecularmodels.ca/molecule/Poisons.htm
