My goal was to make this as
general as possible while at the same time clarifying basic expectations and
encouraging committees to write their own, more detailed rules.
Guidelines for Faculty Service
on Committees:
1) Faculty will conduct
themselves in a professional manner.
2) Faculty will conduct
themselves in a collegial manner.
3) Faculty will support a
climate of intellectual engagement and respect for the diversity of ideas.
4) Faculty will strive to
balance their complex roles and responsibilities as representing themselves,
their discipline, the Senate, and the college.
5) Committees are encouraged
to develop their own code of conduct to clarify interpretations of these
guidelines specifically for their own committee and it shall be considered part
of a faculty members professional and collegial responsibility to respect them.
6) Faculty serve at the will
of the Senate and the Senate and Senate President may reorganize committee
membership when deemed necessary.
