Anthropology is the study of human society in evolutionary, historical, and comparative frameworks. There is no other academic discipline that examines humans as thoroughly as Anthropology analyzes peoples and cultures throughout the world and through the eons of geologic time. Exploring social and cultural change, excavating and interpreting remains of past cultures, and observing primate behavior are just a few of the approaches anthropologists use to investigate the human condition. Monterey Peninsula College offers courses that cover the diversity of the field.

Because Anthropology is concerned with understanding humanity in its totality, it is an ideal major for anyone planning a career that involves working with people. Anthropology courses are also of direct utility to majors in Psychology, Nursing, Teaching and Ethnic Studies as part of a student's  general education.

All courses offered in the anthropology department transfer to both the California State University and University of California systems. For more information, click on the courses you might be interested in.
