High school students attend an adult science fair!

In 2002, one hundred high school students attended the ASLO/AGU Ocean Sciences Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii. The students were 9th and 12th graders at the University High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Tami Lunsford was their teacher.

The students attended a poster session and talked with presenters about their research. They also participated in an informal panel discussion that gave them the chance to ask questions of the researchers about their work, lives, and educational background. Special thanks to Russ Moll from California Sea Grant for his help in organizing the event and making it a reality!

The students learned a great deal about the breadth and depth of ocean science and how current research works in the "real world." It was a fabulous experience for the students, their teacher, and the researchers involved. That is why it is going to be repeated at the 2004 Ocean Research Conference! More information on the 2004 event can be found here.
