Worked with a local high school science supervisor to present half-day Undersea Technology/ROV sessions at summer oceanography camps for grades 4-9 focusing on 6th grade students.  A total of 250 students attended these workshops in July and August 2005. In 2006, Dave will be expanding his workshops to impact more students. Click here to see photos of some of the 4-6th graders.

Held a one-day "ROV Sampler" for a dozen 6-12 grade teachers on August 17, 2005.

Hosted a family program on building ROVs on August 18, 2005, with 20 people in attendance.

Dave has also set up a permanent test tank in his classroom and is planning to use it for regular ROV demonstrations.

Brookdale CC filmed some of their activities, which will soon be posted on their website.

ROV boat trip for Larry and his students was funded by Toshiba America Foundation.  Eric Grossman from USGS and his Honokohau-Koloko NP staff taught Larry's students about water column sampling.   Mark Hruska from Onset Computers (they make the salinity loggers) was there to help help the students sample.  Sara Peck (UH-Manoa Sea Grant) worked with a student team on reef fish IDing and counts.  The local press were also onboard.

Two of Larry's students were on the local education cable channel, TV56, talking about their ocean ROV missions and mapping in a full hour program that ran all of April, 2006. These two students won the state Arts and Communications poster competition with their ArcGIS maps about the ocean mapping with ROVs, 1st and 2nd place

Jennifer Stock Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary Co-hosted a 2.5 day ROV building workshop with MATE at Deep Ocean Engineering and Research facility in Alameda, CA. 98% of participants
have incorporated ROV building into their curriculum and some participate in annual Monterey competition.

Successfully hosted an ROV workshop for teachers in the San Francisco area with the MATE Center.  To see a description of the workshop click here!
